Dubbel Zout Licorice at Bulk Barn in Toronto

I am a big fan of licorice and have always wanted to try Dubbel Zout – the double-salted Dutch black licorice. While some have dismissed it as the most unpleasant candy ever created, I was curious about its intensely salty flavour since I love salty and savoury foods. I assumed that my next trip to Europe would be my only chance to try this popular northern European snack, which is made exclusively in the Netherlands. As it turns out, I was wrong. I didn’t need to travel to a Nordic country to try Dubbel Zout; all I had to do was visit Bulk Barn. I found those little black super salty coins with all the other varieties of licorice.

One of the great advantages of shopping at Bulk Barn is that you can buy just a few candies to see if you like them before committing to an entire bag. To my surprise, I found myself not entirely put off by the strong taste. While I wouldn’t purchase them again, I must admit that they were better than I expected.

While the double salted licorice is certainly not for the faint of heart, Bulk Barn offers an extensive variety of licorice options that are sure to satisfy any candy lover’s taste buds. I’m a bigger fan of allsorts, which offer a combination of textures and flavours.

For those who enjoy a soft and chewy texture, the Aussie Soft Style Black and Red Licorice varieties are a must-try. And for those who prefer a toffee-like consistency, the Licorice Toffee is delicious. Health-conscious candy lovers will appreciate the No Sugar Added Licorice, which can be hard to find. Bulk Barn is a great spot for licorice enthusiasts looking to explore new flavors and textures, with very little risk if you don’t like the one you tried.
