Shadowpath Theatre Presents Hotel Solstice

The third annual Hotel Solstice took place at the Springhill Suites by Marriott in Vaughan on June 18th. Presented by Shadowpath Theatre Productions, Hotel Solstice is a wild night of art, music and dance all under one roof. The lobby is transformed into a creative space for artists. The hotel rooms become venues for performance art. The ballroom hosted dancers of every style from tap to contemporary to belly dancing. From clairvoyants to flair bartenders to roaming musicians, the hotel for one late spring night becomes an artistic adventure. The lobby artists were amazing to see in action.

One of the artists was creating a work where all the guests could contribute to a box. Here is my heart.

After checking out the lobby artists it was time to take in a show. Diane and I headed up the elevator to Room 317 for a performance called “The Shower Guy.” Here he is before the show. All the guests sort of piled on the beds and in the living room of the suite which was a first for me, and I’ve been to a lot of Fringe Festivals! The performance started at 8pm with Shower Guy taking a… shower. For real! Then he ironed his shirt and sang. It was creative and fun and really different.

There were all sorts of different performances in several different rooms on different floors, as well as in the hotel boardrooms. It was such a creative use of all the different space available in a hotel. There was live music on the outside patio and a variety of dance performances in the ballroom. There was even a film cabaret screening highlights from Monty Python’s famous television series with beer samples and popcorn.

What a delightful project. It was fun to be able to customize your own entertainment throughout the event. Hotel Solstice was put together by Alex Karolyi, the Artistic Director at Shadowpath Theatre Productions. Congrats on an amazing night! Rosie 🙂
