Now Closed: Starbucks in the Kingsway

This Starbucks on Bloor St W. at Grenview Boulevard has permanently closed as of February 19th. There was a constant stream of customers at this bustling location right across from the neighbourhood LCBO. The businesses on the same block as this Starbucks seem to be hanging in there (especially Etobicoke’s oldest pub, The Old Sod) but across the street and down the road, new developments are in progress.

The Kingsway is a neighbourhood located in Etobicoke. It’s known for its winding, beautiful tree-lined streets, large lots and Tudor-style homes. Homes in this area have become some of the most valuable real estate in Toronto. There are numerous projects approved for construction in the Kingsway including the United Kingsway Condos on the south side of Bloor between Prince Edward Drive and Grenview Boulevard. The businesses in this photo have shut down or relocated for this development:

The proximity of Royal York subway station to the Kingsway, and its many restaurants and boutique shops in the commercial strip along Bloor, makes this an attractive part of the city for new condo development. With retail spaces included in the plans for these new buildings, it’s likely in time another coffee shop will pop up to replace the bustling Bloor and Grenview Starbucks.
