Closing Soon: Akropolis Pastries on the Danforth

Greek bakery Akropolis Pastries will permanently close after 44 years due to the expropriation necessary for the new Ontario Line subway system. Located close to Danforth and Pape at 708 Danforth Avenue, Akropolis is beloved for its authentic phyllo pastries like spanakopita. The shop will close by Monday August 28th, 2023.

The 15-stop, 15.6-kilometre Ontario Line, projected to operate from Exhibition Place through the downtown area along Queen Street and then north to the existing Ontario Science Centre location, had its route adjusted. The change relocated the line to tunnel east of Pape Avenue instead of directly beneath the road, preserving the current Pape Station and keeping local roads accessible during construction. The Ontario Line is anticipated to be finalized by 2031.

The bakery at this time is not planning to relocate anywhere else. Akropolis phyllo products are available at major supermarkets and specialty food stores in Canada (Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Toronto GTA, Montreal, London, Windsor, Ottawa) and in the US (New York, Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia, Detroit).
