PICK OF THE WEEK
TIMMY TRUMPET – NOV. 24TH – REBEL
Look there are bigger concerts this week and I have profiled a few of them below. But really I think it will be hard to equal the fun factor of a Timmy Trumpet live show. The Australian DJ may be the only EDM performer who busts out a trumpet and plays it in the middle of his sets, and somehow makes it work. His sets at Tomorrowland in Belgium are the most watched on the legendary festival’s Youtube channel and now has Timmy touring festivals around the world including Veld in Toronto this past summer.
OTHER HOT TICKETS:
TOOL – NOV. 20 & 21 – SCOTIABANK ARENA
Tool have been described as alternative rock or alternative metal but neither tag does the band justice. Their intense brand of dread, darkness and longing have been a soundtrack for some since their debut in the 90s. I got into them for a while as it was hard to resist songs like “Sober”, but I know for others this is an inventive and inspiring group unlike any other. They are at Scotiabank for two nights.
KISS – NOV. 22 – SCOTIABANK ARENA
Tool calls their fans members of the “Tool Army” modelled after the original “KISS Army”. Kiss are the original blend of make-up, campy horror, and unforgettable guitar riffs. This is called the “End of the Road World Tour” and the Toronto show will be the 7th last show the legends of hard rock will ever do. They wrap it all up on December 2nd in Madison Square Garden. I guess they will still party ever day, but they will no longer rock and roll all night.
COWBOY JUNKIES – NOV. 22 – DANFORTH MUSIC HALL
One of the all-time coolest Canadian bands ever brings their beautiful sounds to a great venue after rescheduling their October shows due to a Covid outbreak in the band.
What more can you say about this group. They started in the 80s, have 16 albums, and have created a truly original sound of patient yet powerful country music fueled by the amazing voice of Margo Timmins.
LIL TJAY – FRIDAY NOV. 24 – COCA-COLA COLISEUM
Lil TJay is a rapper on his “Beat the Odds” tour. He is just 22 and is part of another new wave of hip-hop in New York. His single “Beat the Odds” details his recovery after he was shot seven times during an attempted robbery last year. This is young melodic rapper’s fourth tour so far.
