Mama Loves You Vintage on Queen West

Mama Loves You Vintage is a terrific shop on Queen St. West selling vintage clothing, accessories, and home decor. Founded in 2012 by mother-daughter team Mahro and Melo, everything is handpicked with a keen eye for distinctive and timeless pieces from elegant 50s dresses to funky 70s jumpsuits. My favourite thing to do is head straight for the rack of dresses and go through every single one to see what fabulous frock from a bygone era is waiting for its next incarnation.

Today I saw a beautiful 1950’s blue and white day dress in a crisp cotton linen fabric with pintucked detailing and a “union-made” label. There was also a gorgeous black and green velvet Scott Mcclintock with a sweetheart neckline and open back, and an elegant feather-trimmed trumpet-sleeved long silk dressing gown.

The walls are decorated with retro posters and vintage knick-knacks, creating a fun and quirky vibe. But the real star of the show is the clothing racks, which are overflowing with colorful garments from every decade.

Vintage clothing is typically higher quality than its modern-day counterparts meaning you’ll get a unique piece that will last for years to come, and the pieces here are fairly priced to reflect that. But if you are looking for a really frugal vintage find, the $5 bin is overflowing with fabulous.

Mama Loves You Vintage also carries vintage jewelry, hats, bags, and shoes, as well as home decor items like old-school record players and retro kitchenware. I brought home this black satin evening bag with handmade satin rosettes.

You can also explore their collection online at the Mama Loves You Vintage Etsy shop. Right now there is a stunning vintage 1950s Lilli Ann peplum blazer with silk velvet polka dots and trim around the collar. Mama Loves You Vintage is open daily from 12-6pm and is located at 541 Queen St W, Toronto.
