We were thrilled to connect with so many of you last March when we first wrote about Costco’s latest expansion in Ontario. There were so much anticipation and plenty of questions leading up to the grand opening in November 2023 of the new Costco location on Islington in Toronto’s Rexdale area, addressing a significant need for convenience in the community. Now, we’re delighted to follow and document yet another exciting Costco development. As indicated on the Town of Oakville’s development map, a new Costco location is in the planning stages at 3471 Wyecroft Rd. in Oakville. This marks the wholesale giant’s first venture into the suburb. Here is the landscape plan drafted in February 2024 from the Town of Oakville website:

The proposed site, located within a retail plaza near the QEW and Burloak Drive, is already home to well-known brands such as The Home Depot and Structube. According to the Town of Oakville website, ‘the proposed new development Costco facility is proposed to have 15,662.6 square meters of gross floor area, with a total of 1,000 parking spaces which will include both surface and underground parking.‘

Many are asking us if there is going to be a gas station at the new Costco in Oakville? The Town of Oakville website states that yes there will be: “The gas bar will contain a 1.4 square meters warming hut for a service attendant. The gas bar is located at the northeast corner of the site near the South Service Road West and RioCan Boulevard intersection.’

Similar to our coverage of the Costco on Islington in Etobicoke, we look forward to following and sharing photos with you as the new Oakville Costco takes shape. It will be interesting to observe the potential impacts on other businesses within the plaza, particularly whether this Costco will be replacing existing stores or integrating with the shopping centre.

The addition of Costco to this retail hub is sure to breathe new life into the area, offering residents a fresh and convenient shopping destination. Having spent time in this area, we anticipate that the new Costco will be a welcome addition for Oakville shoppers, potentially alleviating some of the congestion at the heavily trafficked Burlington Costco on 1225 Brant Street.
